Dr. Knox Honors Family with Gift to Community Foundation for Hospice House

Dr. Thomas E. Knox of Mountain Home and his wife, Deborah, made a $10,000 endowment to Twin Lakes Community Foundation in memory of his deceased brothers, Bill and John Knox and Gerald Hopkins. The Knoxes designate all earnings from the endowment for Hospice House, a part of Hospice of the Ozarks.

The residential hospice was built with donations from the community and opened in December 2005. Additional donations for operation are welcomed.

Dr. Knox is the youngest of four brothers. The eldest, Bill, died in 1995. John Knox and Gerald Hopkins died within three months of each other, in June and September of 2005.

"Other generous donors have helped build the Hospice House. We wanted to provide a permanent source for its operation. I can think of no greater memorial to my brothers than this gift which will help others for many years to come," said Dr. Knox.

Deborah Knox commented, "As a board member of Twin Lakes Community Foundation, I encourage others who wish to support community needs to do so via Twin Lakes Community Foundation. Through 2007, donations to its unrestricted fund are matched by the Walton Foundation’s Partners Program. From these funds, grants are made annually to local nonprofit organizations from grant applications. Future grants will be made from the income of the permanent funds."

The Twin Lakes Community Foundation serves the four counties of Baxter, Marion, Fulton and Izard, and invites grant applications from all.

Twin Lakes Community Foundation is a general public charity. It helps donors create funds tailored to their specific interests. Donors receive the highest level of tax benefits for charitable giving without setting up their own foundation, according to Estella Tullgren, executive director of the community foundation.
