Fracture Care
Regional Orthopaedic Health
Care provides both inpatient and outpatient orthopaedic
surgical services. An example of a common surgery performed
is an ORIF (open reduction internal fixation) of a
complex fracture requiring the broken bones to be realigned
surgically and held in place with screws, pins, or
plates. ORIFs are performed at the hospital. Surgeries
are scheduled through the Regional Orthopaedic Health
Care office. Regional Orthopaedic Health Care uses
the surgical facilities of Baxter Regional Medical
Center in Mountain Home. Initial postoperative checkups
are scheduled through the hospital's recovery room,
and any further checkups, including rehabilitation
therapy, are scheduled through our office.
Inpatient Surgery
Inpatient surgeries require the
patient to stay overnight in the hospital. As an
inpatient, you have convenient access to a full-time
nursing staff and many other medical services. Some
of the most common inpatient orthopaedic surgeries
performed include total knee, hip, and shoulder replacements;
and pinning fractures of the wrist, arm, foot, ankle,
leg and hip.
Outpatient Surgery
Outpatient surgeries are performed
in one day and do not require an overnight stay at
the hospital. As compared to traditional inpatient
surgeries, outpatient surgeries often can provide
a less costly, less time-consuming and more convenient
alternative for the patient. Some of the most common
types of outpatient orthopaedic surgeries include
knee scopes, open carpal tunnel release, hardware
removals, trigger finger releases, and repair of
hand injuries.
Anesthesiology
Anesthesiologists are specially trained physicians
who plan, administer and monitor the anesthetic drugs
that "put you to sleep" during surgery. For
anesthesiology services, Regional Orthopaedic Health
Care utilizes the active staff anesthesiologists at
Baxter Regional Medical Center.
Closed Fracture Care
Fractures where the skin is unbroken
will require casting. This is performed either in our
clinic or in the hospital operating room under anesthesia.
